Why Mental Health Matters for Your Child.

Early intervention can make a lifelong difference. According to the CDC, about 1 in 5 children experiences a mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder. With the right support, kids can learn coping skills, manage stress, and build a healthy sense of self.

At WHI Kids, we provide specialized care for children ages birth to 17, with customized approaches for each stage of development. Our goal is to partner with families to create stronger emotional foundations that last a lifetime.

Strong kids. Supported parents. Healthier families.

Give Your Child the Support They Deserve.

Your child’s mental health matters. Let our team help them build the skills and confidence to thrive today — and in the future.

  • We provide counseling for children from birth through age 17, with approaches tailored to each developmental stage. Once a client turns 18, they transition to our adult counseling services through WHI Women or WHI Partners, depending on their needs.

  • That’s completely normal. Our therapists use play therapy, sand tray therapy, art therapy, and age-appropriate activities to help kids feel safe, comfortable, and engaged — even when they’re not ready to open up verbally. Learn more about how play therapy works.

  • Signs might include changes in sleep or appetite, withdrawal from friends, school struggles, frequent worry, or sudden shifts in behavior. If you’re unsure, scheduling a consultation can provide clarity and peace of mind. CDC data shows that early support significantly improves long-term outcomes.

  • Early Childhood Wellness appointments are available in-office only at our Gilbert and Tempe locations. For teen or pre-teen counseling, we can accommodate virtual sessions upon request — though we recommend in-person visits whenever possible to ensure the most effective therapeutic experience.

  • Parent participation is an essential part of the process. We offer parent coaching and regular updates so you feel equipped to reinforce progress at home and stay connected to your child’s journey.

  • Yes — we accept most major commercial insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and AHCCCS Medicaid. For the most up-to-date list, please call our office directly.
